Experts' advice
1. Pay attention to the covering type. Colours and patterns are important, but they are not the only factors which should be taken into consideration when choosing floor coverings. There are many types and sub-types of coverings, which differ by materials, technology of production and functionality parameters. Each of them is suitable for different types of objects and different types of rooms within a single object. If you decide to choose them without advice, you may make a mistake. If you do not consider experts' advice and insist on a particular pattern, and not pay attention to a type of the covering, you also may make a mistake. It is good to know the typology and short descriptions of each type below.
Loop pile coverings Loop pile coverings are one of the most popular materials which are placed in offices, institutions and other rooms.
Structure: multi-layer construction Nap of the covering (horsehair fibre) is quilted on a fabric (for example a jute one), which is called the first layer. This covering is joint by a binder with a layer of a basic underlay, which decides about fitting to a floor, stiffness and springiness of the covering. Nap of the covering may vary in external look. It is connected with the way fabrics are woven. There are loop pile coverings made of natural and artificial fibres. They are thicker than flexible coverings. That is why they create a better noise barrier. Thanks to used materials, they make rooms look warm and cosy. Horsehair is often impregnated with substances to prevent dust and dirt from penetrating into the nap.
Basic advantages: wide selection of patterns and colours, easy to clean and maintain, high abrasion resistance, possibility of using in rooms with floor heating.
Fibrebonded coveringsThey are perfect for places which require durable floors, which are abrasion and dirt resistant. They are recommended to all public utility facilities, including office rooms, halls, stairs, schools, as well as other places with difficult usage conditions.
Structure: Created from polyamide or polypropylene fibres, mechanically tangled during fibrebonding process. The effect is an exceptionally strong covering with tight by still flexible structure. Dirt does not penetrate its structure, and it is easier to keep clean than other floor coverings.
Basic advantages: tight structure, heavy traffic endurance, resistant to pressure and movement of furniture on wheels and rolls, easy to keep clean, very good antielectrostatic characteristics, easy installation, wide selection of patterns, reasonable price.
Velour coveringsThey are one of the most prestigious floor coverings available on the market. They are installed in offices, hotels, cinemas, restaurants and flats.
Structure: Velour coverings differ from loop pile coverings by a cut (trimmed) upper part of a loop. These loops can be woven in the form of single fibres or tangled bunches of fibres. The structure which is obtained during trimming makes the velour covering exceptionally resistant to intensive use. Velour coverings are often coloured through. That is why uniform colour of coverings remains for a longer period of time, despite exploitation leading to wear.
Basic advantages: very heavy traffic endurance, easy to clean, high comfort of use, prestige, long-term durability.
Carpet coverings in tilesA new solution for those who want durable coverings and look for unusual arrangement solutions. Carpet tiles can be installed without glue. When moving out it is possible to dismantle the material and place it somewhere else. Carpet tiles are particularly popular in public usage facilities, such as offices, banks, hotels or restaurants. Among all types of carpet coverings, carpet tiles are best for arranging unusual patterns on floors.
Structure: Size of tiles is 50 x 50 cm. Polyamide textile surface can have velour, loop pile or fibrebonded structure. Fibres are placed on a bitumen underlayer or on several layers of strongly pressed PVC with unwoven layer of glass fibre (Backing System - BS) set in.
Basic advantages: incredible easiness of installation with small amount of waste (from 5%), decorative advantages, antielectrostatic, soundproof, uniform colour on the whole surface in all tiles, possibility to reproduce a given colour as an individual order, durability of a colour, ideal base for imprints, no necessity for permanent pasting - possible to dismantle and install again, possible to install on sustained floors.
PVC coverings Facility PVC coverings made of polyvinyl chloride have increased resistance to usage conditions. They have necessary approvals and documents, thanks to which they are allowed to be used in construction industry. They also meet international standards. PVC coverings are perfect for treatment rooms and dentists' offices, and to social rooms (such as bathrooms, kitchens, canteens etc.), as well as to schools. .
Structure: PVC coverings are divided into multi-layer (heterogenic) and uniform (homogenic). Number of layers and variety of used substances contribute greatly to the quality of the covering, and they indicate the place of use, meeting all technical and hygienic requirements for such type of floor coverings.
Basic advantages:
resistant to very heavy traffic and dirt, possibility to create attractive patterns, easy to keep clean and hygienic defined by strict regulations, affordable price.
2. Pay attention to approvals.Coverings used in public utility facilities have to be approved. Necessary approvals include non-combustion approvals, antielectrostatic approvals and hygiene approvals. Coverings for household use which are available on the market, often look similar to facility coverings, but they do not have approvals. Such coverings should be avoided.
